round black fossil chronograph watch with link band

your second hand

your name became a scroll across the bottom of the screen today –
followed by dead. needle. arm.
and I wonder if at the moment when your second hand stopped
you knew the gravity of it,
or did it surprise you, too?
did your eyes widen and your jaw drop,
and was your last thought what did I do?
when your second hand stopped did you hear announcers boom
your name and did you think you were stepping to a spotlight downstage
before you crumbled to a headline…
soon to be a footnote in the too familiar commentary of genius turned corpse.
did you believe your eyes when your second hand dropped
and wasn’t able to take it back?
2/2. Stopped. You.
